In the Grimm fairy tale, Snow White is a child when the queen begins her campaign to kill the little beauty and eat her liver, lungs and/or heart. In the end the evil queen dances to her death in iron shoes pulled red-hot from the coals at Snow White and the prince's wedding.
That kind of evil is not easily forgotten. The queen in Disney's 1937 animated "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" has become an icon of wickedness.
On American Film Institute's list of the top 50 villains and 50 heroes, the queen of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" ranks as the No. 10 villain (Dr. Hannibal Lecter/"The Silence of the Lambs" is No. 1). Snow White is nowhere to be found on the heroes' list, which puts Atticus Finch in "To Kill a Mockingbird" at the top.
